Day 82: June 21, 2022
What are My Thoughts Today?
Today on The Path we were asked to ponder the miracle of existence, and how amazing it is that we have bodies who care for us and keep us alive as long as they possibly can. Jim Carrey (of all humans!) was quoted as an example of the reverence we can hold for our time on this planet - I didn't realize he was on the Alcohol-Free train! He was apparently quoted as saying: "If you aren't in the moment, you are either looking forward to uncertainty, or back to pain and regret. I'm very serious about no alcohol, no drugs. Life is too beautiful." I really like that quote!
We were asked to write a thank you letter to our bodies, and a response from our body back to us. Here's my attempt at the assignment:
Dear Body,
Thank you for keeping me alive and as well-balanced as you possibly can over the years. I know I haven't always been the kindest to you, but I'm working on it now! Please tell me what you need to thrive and I will try my best to listen, learn and grow. I love you.
Truly,
Me

Dear You,
I know that life is full of unexpected twists and turns, but I'm glad you are trying to tune in to what helps me thrive now.
Don't beat yourself up about the past, or when things don't go right — shame just adds more stress to your life and to me! Instead, think of this life as a grand adventure, and picture me as your traveling companion. We will try to keep each other safe no matter what, and we will have fun along the way! Think of all the things that we have yet to see and do. Life is too beautiful for alcohol, and life is too short for regrets. I love you, too.
Truly,
Your Body
AF Days Since May 23, 2024: 29
My Why: To have freedom from addictions, to create more space in my life, to honor my body / mind / spirit, to feel vibrant and empowered in my daily life, and to make my corner of the world a better, more peaceful, more loving & more beautiful place.
What's One Awesome Thing that Happened Yesterday because I Chose Not to Drink?
I went out to a social event last night where I normally would have drank, and I'm glad that I didn't! I feel good today and I have a lot to do so it's nice not to be bogged down. It's amazing what we put our bodies through. All the unnecessary struggles we face because of choices we make around drinking.
