Day 4: April 4, 2024
What are My Thoughts Today?
Today on The Path, Annie Grace talked about how the "angel" and the "demon" on our shoulders are really just part of our own self and both of their goals are self-preservation and wanting the best for us (even if it's in mal-adaptive ways). I can't believe I have never ever thought of both voices in my head as trying to protect me and make me feel better... But that resonates as so true!!! Kindly telling our voices we see them and love them but that we're picking up new tools - that feels SO MUCH LIGHTER than the blame and shame I am used to doling out to myself. ❤️
Progress Notes / Tips:
One of the biggest reasons I drink is because I believe I like the taste ('cuz I do) and that I think it pairs well with food. I still believe these things are true, but I don't think alcohol is the ONLY thing that tastes good anymore. 😜 But for me finding replacements that feel like an actual treat (no offense, tea) has been a big part of what is keeping me on track. If I can still get a little treat at the end of the day or with my meal, then I don't feel deprived. I'm sure there's still more to unpack with this, but that's where I'm at right now on my alcohol free journey.
Here are the things that are tasty and have helped me to not miss alcohol so much:
- Fever Tree sparkling beverages are super yummy. I REALLY love the pink grapefruit one and the Yuzu Lime one with food. The ginger beer is tasty, too. What I love most about the Fever Tree is that they are pretty low in calories... Usually between 30-40 per bottle. That means I would have to drink 4 Fever Trees to equal the amount of calories in a single beer or glass of wine... Which would be highly unlikely! But that means there's no guilt involved, health-wise!
- NA Guinness (only 80 calories a pint) and dark chocolate combo at night.
- I just ordered some tart cherry juice and blueberry (shrub) vinegar and I will try making an AF cocktail tonight!
- Drinking from sparkly, fancy glasses is still a must, even just bubbly water!!! ✨💎✨

My Why: To see how much better I feel without alcohol!
What's One Awesome Thing that Happened Yesterday because I Chose Not to Drink? I got to feel proud of myself for staying sober around my nieces and nephews, even when other family members were having a glass of wine! I want to set a good example for them, especially since they are teenagers now.
Daily Affirmations:
1) I choose to live alcohol-free.
2) I respect and honor myself.
3) I am worthy of love and care.
4) I give myself patience to heal.
5) I have compassion for others.
6) I create beauty all around me.
