Day 104: July 13, 2024

What are My Thoughts Today?

Today's lesson on The Path was very encouraging - I loved learning about The Hero's Journey. I also love that growth was talked about as an upward spiral. We are never done growing. Even when we get to a place where we don't want to drink, there are other growth spirals awaiting us. Just knowing that we can work to heal ALL the ways that we self-medicate is huge. For me, future growth spiral journeys are external habits like time management, caffeine, healthy food and exercise. I also want to embark on the inner growth journey of learning how to be more of my authentic self, by developing healthy boundaries and embracing a loving honesty (even when it's hard), valuing each person as equal on the deepest level, and forgiving others and the world for my trauma.

Ultimately, whenever we take one of these spirals all the way through, we are more peaceful at the end, and we can share that peace with the world. I'm glad The Path covered this topic now because even though I haven't had a drink in 51 days, I know there are other things I am going to need to work on in order to not fall back into old patterns. Reflecting on the true nature of personal growth helps to keep me from getting overwhelmed or discouraged...I can change, it just takes time. In fact, it's a never-ending process. I really like the advice about how the way to stay sober is to keep growing so that eventually, you will no longer be the kind of person who even wants to drink.
